In the six years since goblins killed her family…

and captured her father, eighteen-year-old Avana has searched the Wilds of Arda for him. Armed with his longsword, Stelenacht, and the acquired hunter and warrior skills learned from her adopted father, Finris, chief of all the wolves of the North, she presses on with her quest. While making camp, Avana is observed by friendly and intelligent dwarves who rescue her when they discover she is under goblin attack. Their leader, Killian, quickly befriends Avana, notices her grace, and intuits her notable lineage. He agrees to allow her to accompany them to Amaroth where she can find out more about her father’s whereabouts.

Once in the city, Avana discovers that she’ll be more successful in her quest if she becomes part of a larger whole—and so she joins the Guard and quickly rises up the ranks. She grows to be an outstanding leader, yet after one devastating goblin battle that leaves many of her men dead, she questions her worth and capabilities….Will she have the courage to find her father after all?
